How to Check Qatar Visa Status by Passport Number

Last verified against the live MOI portal: October 2026 Β· Reading time: ~5 min

Here's the good news first: you don't need a visa number, you don't need an agent, and you definitely don't need to visit any office. If you have your passport in your hand, you can check your Qatar visa status right now on the official Ministry of Interior (MOI) portal β€” no account, no login, no fee.

πŸ›οΈ Do the actual check on the official portal

This is a guide only β€” enter your details only on the government website:

Open portal.moi.gov.qa β†—

What you need before you start

  • Your passport number, typed exactly as printed on your passport (no spaces)
  • Your nationality, selected from the dropdown list
  • A stable internet connection β€” the portal can time out on slow networks

That's it. Checking is free.

Method 1: Check by passport number

  1. Go to portal.moi.gov.qa (you can also reach it from moi.gov.qa).
  2. Click Inquiries, then select Visa Services.
  3. Click Visa Inquiry and Printing.
  4. In the Search By dropdown, select Passport Number.
  5. Enter your passport number exactly as printed β€” no extra spaces, correct letter case.
  6. Select your nationality from the dropdown list.
  7. Complete the CAPTCHA and click Search.

Your visa status appears on screen right away, including the approval stage, visa type, and validity dates. If you have more than one application, they may all be listed.

πŸ’‘ Tip

The most common reason for a failed search is a wrong nationality selection or a passport number with an accidental space. Double-check both before assuming something is wrong with your visa.

Method 2: Check by visa number

If you already have the visa approval document, you can search with the 15-digit visa number printed on it:

  1. Open the MOI portal and go to Inquiries β†’ Visa Services β†’ Visa Inquiry and Printing.
  2. In the Search By dropdown, select Visa Number.
  3. Enter the 15-digit visa number.
  4. Select your nationality, complete the CAPTCHA, and click Search.

The result shows the same details as the passport-number search. Keep the visa number and passport number in their correct fields β€” mixing them up returns no result.

Method 3: Check by application number

Use this when your visa is still being processed and you want to track the application itself. Application Number is the default Search By option on the portal.

  1. Go to Inquiries β†’ Visa Services β†’ Visa Inquiry and Printing.
  2. Confirm Application Number is selected in the Search By dropdown.
  3. Enter your application number.
  4. Provide the Sponsor or Representative ID, or the Application Date, as requested.
  5. Complete the CAPTCHA and click Search.

This shows whether the application is under review, approved, or rejected β€” useful when you don't have a visa number yet.

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to do
"No record found"Re-check the passport/visa number and nationality. If still nothing, the visa may not be issued yet β€” or your sponsor hasn't submitted the application. Contact your sponsor or employer.
CAPTCHA won't acceptRefresh the CAPTCHA image and try again. Make sure you're typing it exactly, respecting upper/lowercase.
Portal times out or won't loadTry again later or switch networks. The portal gets busy during working hours in Qatar (Sunday–Thursday).
Details look wrongDo not travel on a visa with wrong details. Ask your sponsor to get it corrected through the MOI before you fly.

⚠️ Don't trust screenshots alone

Some agents send edited "approval" screenshots. Always run the check yourself on the official portal β€” it takes two minutes and it's free.
