Qatar Visa: Frequently Asked Questions

Last updated: October 2026

The questions everyone asks about Qatar visas — answered straight, no jargon. Click any question to expand it.

How long does a Qatar visa take to get approved?

It depends on the visa type. Tourist e-visas are usually decided within 24–48 hours. Work and family visas take longer — typically 7–10 working days, sometimes more, because they involve medical tests, biometrics, and document verification. If yours is taking much longer than that, the holdup is usually a pending document or payment — ask your sponsor.

Can I check my visa status without a visa number?

Yes — this is the most common way people check, actually. On the MOI portal, choose "Passport Number" in the Search By dropdown and enter your passport number plus nationality. No visa number needed. Full steps in our passport-number guide.

The portal says "No record found." Does that mean I'm rejected?

No — "No record found" is not a rejection. Nine times out of ten it means one of three things: a typo in the passport/visa number, the wrong nationality selected, or the application simply hasn't been submitted yet. Rejections show up as an explicit Rejected status. Double-check your details first, then confirm with your sponsor whether the application was actually filed.

Is there a fee for checking my visa status online?

No. Checking on the MOI portal, the QVC website, or the Metrash2 app is completely free. If anyone asks you to pay for a "status check," that's a scam.

What's the difference between "Ready to Print" and "Valid to Use"?

Ready to Print means approved, but with one last step pending (usually a fee payment). Valid to Use means the visa is fully issued and ready for travel. Don't book non-refundable flights on "Ready to Print" alone. See all status meanings explained.

My visa was rejected. What now?

First, find out why — ask your sponsor for the stated reason. Common causes are incomplete documents or errors in the application, both fixable. Correct the issue and reapply; a rejection doesn't permanently block you. If the reason isn't clear, the Qatar embassy/consulate in your country or an authorized visa service center can advise.

Can I check someone else's visa status?

The portal only asks for a passport number and nationality, so technically yes — but please only do this for family members or with the person's permission. And never share someone else's passport details with third parties.

Do I need to print my visa, or is a phone screenshot enough?

Print it. Some airlines accept a clear digital copy, but many don't — and immigration officers prefer paper. A sharp color printout on A4 is the safe option. Print two copies and keep them in different bags. Here's how to download and print it.

What is the Qatar Visa Center (QVC)? Do I need to go there?

QVC handles pre-arrival steps — medical tests, biometrics, contract signing — for work and family visa applicants from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines. If that's you, yes, you'll almost certainly visit one before traveling. Tourist visa applicants don't use QVC. Full details in our QVC guide.

Can I use the Metrash2 app if I don't have a Qatar ID yet?

No — registration requires a QID number, so Metrash2 is for residents already in Qatar. If you're still abroad waiting for approval, use the MOI website with your passport number. Set up Metrash2 after you arrive and receive your QID.

My status has said "Under Process" for weeks. Is something wrong?

Possibly — or possibly not. Work visas legitimately take a few weeks sometimes. But if it's well beyond the normal timeframe, the usual culprits are: a pending medical result, an unsigned employment contract, a missing document, or an unpaid fee. Your sponsor or employer is the one who can see what's stuck — ask them to follow up rather than just waiting.

An agent sent me a visa approval screenshot. Can I trust it?

Verify it yourself. Screenshots are trivially easy to fake, and visa scams are common. Take two minutes, enter your own passport number on the official MOI portal, and confirm the status with your own eyes. Never pay "approval fees" to strangers on WhatsApp.

What's the difference between the MOI portal, QVC, Hayya, and Metrash2?

Quick map: the MOI portal is the official record for checking and printing visas (works for everyone, no login). QVC tracks pre-arrival steps like medicals and biometrics for work/family applicants from six Asian countries. Hayya (hayya.qa) handles tourist e-visas. Metrash2 is the MOI's mobile app for residents with a QID. Use the one that matches your situation.

Can Pakistanis still get visa on arrival in Qatar?

As of our last check (October 2026): no — Qatar suspended visa-on-arrival for Pakistani nationals on March 31, 2026, with no announced restart date. If you're traveling from Pakistan, arrange your visa before you fly, and reconfirm on the Pakistan Embassy Doha's official channels or the Hayya portal before booking.

My work visa is expiring soon. Who renews it?

Your sponsor (employer) handles renewal through the MOI. Your job: remind HR 4–6 weeks before expiry, keep your documents ready, and verify the new dates yourself afterward. Don't let it lapse — overstaying can mean fines. More in our validity & renewal guide.
